Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain sure protecting operation through the reduction of collector loss at short-circuiting of load by forming a positive feedback loop with the combination of transistors (TRs) different in polarity from input controlling TRs, and limiting the input.
CONSTITUTION: Input limiting TRs 3, 10 are applied with a voltage which is divided from an output overcurrent detecting voltage produced at emitter resistors 6 and 13 with a voltage dividing circuit consisting of voltage dividing resistors 4, 5 and 11, 12. The collector current flowing to the TRs 3 and 10 flows to diodes 14 and 16 to conduct positive feedback TRs 15 and 17. The collector current further increases the voltage drop of the resistors 5 and 12 to increase the current of the TRs 3 and 10, then, a positive feedback loop is formed and the current of output TRs 2 and 9 is limited. In this case, the limiting current depends on the forward voltage of the diodes 14 and 15 and the collector saturating current of the TRs 3 and 10. With this method, the collector current at short-circuiting of the load can be reduced and the collector loss can be decreased.
