PURPOSE:To obtain a part feeder having a mechanism for aligning front and back as well as front and rear of IC caps by employing an optical detecting method which excludes a mechanical aligning method. CONSTITUTION:A detector 4 compares the reflected light quantity on the surface of a feeding passage 3 of a feeder 3 with the front and back of an IC cap 2, delivers a rejection signal when it is less than the prescribed reflectivity and returns into the feeder 1 by an excluding mechanism 5. The cap becomes the same surface by sorting is passed through an optical blocking detector 7. At this time, the cap is returned to the feeder by an excluding mechanism 8 when signals from two photodetectors 10, 11 are not coincident to a set logic by utilizing ultrafine front edge notch of the cap 2, and is aligned with the front and rear. When the projecting spot focus is reduced, the spot can be detected in narrow width in a strip shape, and is not affected even if there is another pattern or the like. When it is synchronized with the movement of an article, the reflected light quantity can be checked at the prescribed point.
