Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound useful as an amino acid infusion solution etc., with simplified process, in high yield, without producing by-products, by adsorbing an aziridine-2-carboxylic acid derivative to a strongly acidic cation exchange resin, and heating the resin in the presence of water.
CONSTITUTION: The aziridine-2-carboxylic acid derivative of formula[X is CN, CONH2, or CO2R (R is 1W5C lower alkyl or aralkyl)]is adsorbed to a strongly acidic cation exchange resin (H type, Na type, NH4 type, etc.; preferably H type), and the resin is heated in the presence of water (at 40W120°C for 1W100hr, preferably 50W100°C for 2W50hr) to obtain DL-serine. The characteristic feature of the process is that, in certain cases, the purification and the separation of the reaction product can be carried out simultaneously by passing aqueous ammonia through the resin after heating, and concentrating and drying the eluent containing serine.
