Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce blowhole phenomena and prevent the damaging of a centering fitting and the irregularity of weld bead shapes by expanding only the end of a pipe in contact with the welding side part of a pipe plate.
CONSTITUTION: Pipe expanding length l is restricted as far as possible to only the end part in contact with the welding side of a pipe plate 1, by which a pipe 2 and the plate 1 are tack welded. In this state, a centering fitting 4 is inserted into the unexpanded part of the pipe 2 and the pipe is center aligned by this, thence the pipe plate 1 and the end of the pipe 2 are welded by a welding machine 3. Thereafter, the pipe 2 is expanded over the entire width of the plate 1 in accordance with need. According to this method, the contact between the fitting 4 and weld beads is eliminated and since the welding arc 5 is apart from the fitting 4, the damages of the fitting 4 are reduced and beads are uniformalized.
