Abstract

PURPOSE: To classify small powders particularly fine powder particles at a high accuracy by charging powder particles in a plasma directly with charged particles to fly thereoutside.
CONSTITUTION: Powder particles are placed into a powder feeder 3 and closed. After a vacuum discharge chamber 1 is reduced vacuum, a d.c. voltage generator 2 is energized to apply a voltage to electrodes 6 and 7 so that a plasma is formed with a glow discharge. At this point, when the powder particles drop into a discharging section 10, they are charged with a sheath in the plasma and fly out of the section 10 dispersing downward in the vacuum discharge chamber 1 whereby they are classified according to the sizes thereof. This enables accurate classification of powder particles utilizing a plasma.
