Abstract
PURPOSE:To discriminate the extent of abrasion of a slider, etc., by observing interference fringes generated owing to the gap between the slider and a transparent body in an adequate shape for substitution for a sample. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic head 21 is adjustable, as shown by an arrow 29, centering of a fitting screw 24. A running table 5 is cut near the contact part between the magnetic head 21 and a transparent body 31. Illumination light from a light source 27 passes through an observation microscope 26, and is projected through the transparent body 31 in an adequate shape for substitution for a sample. Then, the positions and pattern of interference fringes in the gap between the magnetic head 21 and transparent body 31 are observed through the observation microscope 26. An interference fringe 40 which corresponds to the size of said gap is observed near the gap 44 of the magnetic head. If the circumference of the gap is not in normal contact with the transparent body, the center of the interference fringe is shifted from the gap like interference fringes 41 and 42.
