Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a material for a tool joint with high strength and superior delayed fracture resistance in an acidic atmosphere by using a steel contg. C, Si, Mn, S, Cu, Ni, Cr, Mo and V or contg. further Nb or Ca.
CONSTITUTION: The composition of a steel used as a material for a tool joint consists of, by weight, 0.15W0.50% C, 0.15W1.5% Si, ≤1.0% Mn, ≤0.010% S, ≤0.30% Cu, ≤0.305% Ni, 1.3W5.0% Cr, 0.3W1.5% Mo, 0.05W1.0% V and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities or contains further 0.01W0.10% Nb and/or Sx(1.5W2)% Ca. Among said components C increases the strength, and Si and Mn perform deoxidation and desulfurization when the steel is in the molten state. Cr and Mo increase the temper softening resistance and enhance the corrosion resistance, and V and Nb enhance the mechanical properties. Since S, Cu, Ni and Ca deteriorate the delayed fracture resistance, the contents are regulated to said upper limits or below.
