Abstract

PURPOSE:To discriminte the quality of coal simply and quickly by enabling the determination of slight acidity at a high accuracy in an alkali extraction liquid of coal with the measurement of the absorbancy of light in a specified wavelength range. CONSTITUTION:The absorbancy of an alkali extraction liquid of cool is measured in a wavelength range of 240-400nm, which enabls the measurement of even slight acidity at a high accuracy. Thus, it is possible to measure the acidity of even the type of coal whose acidity could not be previously measured by the determination of maximum fluidity like non-coking coal. This method is applicable for early detection of spontaneous combustion in a yard and inspection of deterioration in the coking of material coal.
