Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve dust collecting efficiency by providing a layer of conductive members that can be charged negative at the inside of a prefilter and thereby windening corona discharge zone of an electrostatic precipitator.
CONSTITUTION: A layer 9 of conductive members made up of metallic foils and vapor-deposited metallic layers in a prefilter 3 and the layer 9 of conductive members is charged negative. An end 11a of an ionizing wire 11 is fixed and the intermediate part is hung on supports 12, 12 provided on a frame 2 and stretched zigzag. The other end of the wire is connected to a positive electrode 14 through a spring 13. When the layer 9 and dust collecting plate 7 are charged negative and, at the same time, the ionizing wire 11 is charged positive, negative potential part is formed in the upstream and downstream sides of the wire 11 and a zone of corona discharge 8 is formed. By this way, a zone wider than before is formed, and sufficient positive charge can be given to ultrafine dust that entered inside through the prefilter 3 and the layer 9 of members. As the dust is attracted electrostatically between the layer 9 and the plate 7, dust collecting efficiency can be improved.
