Abstract

PURPOSE: To add filtering and concentrating effects to settling and concentrating effects and to improve concentrating efficiency by suspending filter plates consisting of vacuum filter chambers having filter cloth nets in a gravity settling type concentrating tank into which primary sludge from water purification plants or the like is charged.

CONSTITUTION: The primary sludge introduced through a supply pipe 4 is conducted into the middle layer of a settling and concentrating tank 1, where it spreads from the center toward the circumferential wall. As time passes by, it is classified by gravity to a supernatant area 8, a settling and concentrating area 9 and a consolidation area 10. The surface layers of the area 8 are discharged to the outside of the system through an overflow through 11. At the same time, filter plates 12 are held suspended in the layers of the area 9, and the sludge particles floating in these layers are captured by the filter cloth nets 14, 15 of the plates 12 and increase thicknesses in a laminar form, thereby forming sludge cake. The filtrate accumulated in filter chambers 18 is flowed upward in filtrate discharge pipes 19 by a vacuum siphon effect and is supplied through a liquid collecting pipe 20 into a filtrate tank 21, from which it is discharged to the outside of the system.
