Abstract

PURPOSE:To simplify the mechanism and to miniaturize the size of a developing device, by setting a charging means having a developer amount control function and a bias applying function at the developer drawing-up position. CONSTITUTION:A conductive development roller 1 containing a dielectric layer 2 on its surface is set within a development tank 4 with a contact kept partially to the developer 3 and gets close to the surface of a photosensitive drum 8 to be turned by amotor, etc. in the same direction as the drum 8. A charger 5 is set opposite to the direction where the roller 1 draws up the developer 3 and feeds it onto the drum 8, and controls the developer 3 stuck to the surface of the roller 1 to a certain amount. At the same time, the charger 5 applies the DC voltage between a corona wire 6 and the roller 1 to charge the layer 2 on the roller 1 by the corona discharging. Thus the amount of the developer and the charging potential can be easily controlled to a desired level.
