Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a novel fluorescent material emitting intense red light by the excitation with a low energy electron beam, by adding a specific amount of chromium as an activating agent to a gallate-type oxide represented by a specific composition formula.
CONSTITUTION: The objective fluorescent material is obtained by adding 10-4W 10-1g (reduced to chromium oxide) of chromium to 1g of a gallate-based oxide of formula (0≤x≤1.3; 0≤y≤0.7; M is B or Al). Concretely, the above fluorescent material can be prepared by weighing zinc oxide, gallium oxide, boron oxide and aluminum oxide so as to satisfy the above formula, adding chromium oxide to the above mixture, and calcining the powdery mixture in a neutral atmosphere such as air, nitrogen, etc. or in a weakly reducing atmosphere having a hydrogen content of ≤ several % (preferably at 1,000W1,400°C for 2W4hr).
USE: A fluorescent display tube emitting red light.
