Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase production yield, by forming a recording layer by masking both end parts of a magnetic tape in the width direction of a film base material and vapor-depositing a magnetic material so as to produce a blank part and then cutting the blank part to eliminate the uneven roll-up of the magnetic tape. CONSTITUTION:A base material 7 of polyethylene terephthalate film, etc. for magnetic tape is shifted along the outer circumference surface of a cooling rotary drum 12 by a supply reel 8 via a free roller 9 and an expansion roller 11. Then the current of magnetic metallic steam 15 given from an evaporation container 14 is vapor-deposited by a mask 13 and in a prescribed range of incident angle. In this case, a mask 16 close to the curved surface of the drum 12 is set across the drum 12 so as to cover the both end surfaces of the material 7 to prevent the vapor deposition of the vapor current on the both end surfaces. The material 7 with which the vapor deposition is cover is fed to a cutting mechanism part 17 via the rollers 11 and 9 to be cut at its both ends. Then both the magnetic film formed part and unformed part are rolled up to reels 19 and 18 via the roller 9. Then the vapor-desposited film is formed at both ends of the material 7 to prevent the uneven roll-up of the magnetic tape which is caused by the complicated flow of the steam current.
