Abstract

PURPOSE:To compensate the disconnection defective of an optical fiber by increasing the brightness level of a picture element composed of a black dot or having a low brightness level by using the mean value of brightness levels of picture elements surrounding said picture element if there is such a picture element in a displayed picture. CONSTITUTION:An optical image from an optical fiber cable is digitized by an AD converter 12 according to coordinates from a coordinates generating circuit 11 and then applied to a buffer memory 14. The output of the buffer memory 14 is inputted to a level discriminating circuit 31 after coordinates conversion. The level discriminating circuit 31 writes the input data in a refresh memory 16 when it has a prescribed level or transfers the address of the data to a surrounding coordinates generating circuit 32 when the level of the data is lower than the prescribed level. The generating circuit 32 reads data, which correspond to the addresses of the surrounding data of the input data, out of the refresh memory 16, and an arithmetic circuit 35 calculates their mean brightness level, which is written in the refresh memory 16 as the brightness level of this data. Consequently, data absence due to the fiber disconnection of the optical cable can be compensated.
