Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a titled spot welder which can spot-weld plural works effectively by conducting a laser beam within an upper tip which grasps the plural works under pressure, condensing the same onto the works, and preventing the outflow of molten metal with a lower tip. CONSTITUTION:The works 10A, 10B which are held superposed are sandwiched between upper, lower tips 8, 9, and the tip 8 is forced downward by turning an arm 6 with an oil hydraulic cylinder 11, whereby the works 10A, 10B are held in tight contact with each other under a constant pressure. In this state, a laser beam 13 is projected from a laser source 12 for a short time, is deflected with a reflecting mirror 14 through the inside of the arm 6, and is further condensed through a condenser lens 16 in such a way as to focus on the top surface of the work 10A, whereby such a molten metal part 17 as to penetrate through the works 10A, 10B is made in said works and these are spot-welded. At this time, the outflow of the bottom surface of the molten metal in the part 17 downward is prevented by the leading end face 9a of the lower tip 9. Since the scattering of melts as with conventional spot welders is obviated by this, the reduction in the surface wall thickness is obtained, and high welding strength is obtained.
