Abstract

PURPOSE:To remove the toner stuck on a recording material holding body with a cleaner for a recording body by generating an electric field reverse from that during transfer thereby retransferring said toner to the recording body. CONSTITUTION:During transfer, a switch SW1 is held set in the position of a broken line to charge the inside circumferential surface of a transfer drum 7 which is a recording material holding body electrostatically to a negative polarity. The electric field for transfer is generated in the transfer part by this, and the visible image on a photoreceptor 1 is transferred onto a recording sheet. At this time, part of the toner on the photoreceptor 1 remains on the drum 7 and this is the toner T to be cleaned. The switch SW1 is changed over to the solid line positio to charge the inside circumferential surface of the drum 7 positively, by which the electric field reversed from that during transfer is generated in the transfer part. The toner T on the drum 7 is retransferred by this onto the photoreceptor 1. Therefore, the retransferred toner T is removed by a cleaner 11 of the photoreceptor 1.
