NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formulaI(n is 3W10).
EXAMPLE: Cyclic methyl(1-trifluoromethylethyl)trisiloxane.
USE: Useful as a monomer for silicone resins containing fluorine, and capable of exhibiting oil, cold and solvent resistance in addition to the conventional improved heat resistance, insulating properties and water repellency.
PROCESS: A silanol derivative expressed by formula II (m is 1W10) is dehydrated and cyclized in the presence of an acidic catalyst, e.g. p-toluenesulfonic acid, concentrated sulfuric acid or phosphorus oxychloride, at room temperature W 150°C to give the compound expressed by formulaI. The dehydration is carried out by using benzene, toluene, etc. as a solvent, and removing the water as an azeotropic mixture or using a dehydrating and drying agent, e.g. molecular sieves or magnesium sulfate.
