Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a high power fluorescent lamp having high efficiency by installing a separation wall formed with an ultraviolet ray transmitting material almost in the center within a tube over from the vicinity of one electrode to the vicinity of another electrode. CONSTITUTION:A separation wall 7 formed with a material such as quartz glass which transmits efficiently 254nm ultraviolet rays is installed almost in the center within a tube over from the vicinity of one electrode 4 from the vicinity of another electrode 4 in a fluoresceny lamp 1 to form two discharge paths 6a, 6b in a tube length direction. The discharge between the electrodes 4 is conducted only in the path which has lower discharge impedance in two discharge paths 6a, 6b, and ultraviolet rays generated by the discharge are transmitted through the separation wall 7 and irradiated to another discharge path to unify emission to the outside. Therefore, in order that the cross section of the discharge path becomes semicircular, recombination of electrons and ions is acclerated and the saturation level of light output is increased to improve the efficiency.
