Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable a low pressure gas electric-discharge lamp such as a fluorescent lamp to be substituted for an incandescent lamp by providing the lamp with a meandering discharge route so as to make the lamp to have a small plate-like appearance. CONSTITUTION:A small plate-like fluorescent lamp 1 consists of a molded glass case 3 having partition walls 2, and a plate-like lid 4 which is placed over the case 3 so that they are stacked and fused together. A cathode 5 is constituted of a filament 8 coated with a thermion discharging matter, and two electrode supporting wires 9 supporting the filament 8. One of the wires 9 of the cathode 5 is electrically connected to the lid 4. The other one of the wires 9 of the cathode 9, and an electrode supprting wire 9 of an anode 6 are electrically insulated from the lid 4. The inner walls of the case 3 and the lid 4 are coated with a phosphor which emits light through the irradiation of ultraviolet rays. The lighting of the lamp 1 is carried out by connecting the lamp 1 to a lighting case 11 having a base 10 which is the same as that of an incandescent lamp.
