Abstract

PURPOSE:To make the magnetic field of a magnetic head for vertical magnetic recording of a single auxiliary magnetic pole and a plurality of main magnetic poles uniform and to prevent the generation of crosstalk, by forming a groove wider than a guard band width on a recording medium sliding surface of an auxiliary magnetic pole. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of grooves 302 are formed on a sliding surface of a magnetic recording medium 110 of an auxiliary magnetic pole 102 so that a magnetic pole 301 can be formed at each track. A width W1 of the magnetic pole 301 has a relation of W1<Wt, where the Wt is the width of the main magnetic pole toward the track direction and a width W2 of the groove 302 has a relation of W2>Wg, where the Wg is the width of a guard band. Thus, the condition of W1<Wt is useful also for the increase in recording efficiency, the magnetic field applied to each track of the multitrack can be made uniform, allowing to prevent generation of writing error and crosstalk.
