PURPOSE:To improve the efficiency of erasure by reducing the magnetic resistance of a gap, by slanting or curving the gap in the widthwise direction of an erasing core. CONSTITUTION:In an erasing head device 1', a gap 2a' is formed slanting at an angle (theta) in the widthwise direction of an erasing core 2', i.e. at right angles to a tape running direction, and consequently when the widthwise length of the erasing core 2' of the gap 2a' is denoted as W' and its erasing core width as W, W'= W/costheta is satisfied. Further, the magnetic resistance R' of the gap 2a' is expressed by R'=G/(muOXW/costhetaXD)=Gcostheta/(muOWD). Thus, the magnetic resistance is reduced to half, improving the efficiency of erasure remarkably.
