Abstract
PURPOSE:To measure the volume of liquid drops accurately without contamination, catalytic reaction and mingling of the liquid drops by detecting the liquid drops as optical images and determining the volume of said drops. CONSTITUTION:When the liquid drops 4 falling from a vessel 1 are irradiated by the light from an illuminating optical system 6, the images thereof are projected to array detectors 9, 10. When clock pulses CP are applied to detectors 9, 10 and are sampled during this course, the pulselike voltages of a constant width having the heights corresponding to the drop widths of the liqud drop images 14 projected on the projectors 9, 10 are outputted. The heights of the pulses are measured successively as the drop widths of the drops 14 by a liquid width measuring circuit 11. The time difference since the detector 10 detects the liquid drop image first until the detector 9 detects the liquid drop image first is measured by a time difference measuring circuit 12 which is inputted with the outputs from both detectors 9, 10. From the these values, a calculator 13 determines the volume of one liquid drop.
