Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide an antiseptic agent for water, free from dissolution of detectable silver nitrate in water, and having minerallizing effects, by carring out the thorough washing in the silver-plating of a desalted and activated coral fossil or coral sand by the silver mirror reaction.
CONSTITUTION: Coral fossil or coral sand is desalted by washing with water, activated by heating in an inert gas atmosphere under reduced pressure of about -20W-50mmHg at 200W400°C for 2W4 hours, washed with water for a sufficiently long time, e.g. about 24 hours, and coated with silver. The silver coating is carried out by immersing the above washed coral in a solution of silver ammonia complex prepared by mixing silver nitrate and ammonia water, at about 20W40°C under a reduced pressure of about -20W-50mmHg, adding a small amount of glucose to the solution as a reducing agent, and leaving the coral at rest for a definite time interval. After the silver coating, the coral is dried with heat under reduced pressure washed thoroughly with water, and dried.
