Abstract
PURPOSE: To manufacture a homogeneous starting material composition for borosilicate glass with superior work efficiency and chemical resistance by adding a specified starting material composition for glass contg. lanthanum borosilicate to a starting material blend for glass.
CONSTITUTION: In the manufacture of glass contg. an La compound as a principal component, in order to facilitate the formation of borosilicate glass with superior homogeneity, a starting material composition for glass contg. lanthanum borosilicate is used. The composition is manufactured as follows: powdered SiO2 is blended with 1 or ≥2 kinds of compounds selected from La oxide, La hydroxide and an la compound having their intermediate composition and 1 or ≥2 kinds of compounds selected from orthoboric acid, boron oxide and a boron compound having their intermediate composition in 1.0:(0.05W1.0):(0.17W3.4) molar ratio as anhydrous SiO2, anhydrous La2O3 and orthoboric acid, and after adding an ammonium compound such as NH4Cl to the blend in 0.1W8.0 molar ratio to anhydrous La2O3, they are slurrified with water, dried, and calcined.
