CONSTITUTION:A monomer mixture consisting of >=20wt% alkyl ester of methacrylic acid, 50-99wt% other monofunctional monomer and 50-1wt% multifunctional monomer for forming cross-linkage is charged into a glass pipe, and by completing the polymn., a rodlike cross-linked polymer is formed. The resulting rodlike body is put in a pipe having a larger inside diameter than the diameter of the rodlike body. An additional amount of a monomer such as methyl ester of acrylic acid and a polymn. catalyst are charged into the pipe, and the monomer is allowed to be absorbed in the rodlike body and polymerized.
