Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled resin, having improved transparency, and capable of giving a cast article having greatly improved surface conditions, by radically copolymerizing a specific allylic monomer with a specific monofunctional monomer.
CONSTITUTION: (A) The first one or more monomers expressed by formula I (R is H, chlorine, bromine or methoxyl; a is 1 or 2) are copolymerized with (B) the second one or more radically polymerizable monofunctional monomers, capable of giving a homopolymer having a refractive index of 1.56 or more, and having an aromatic ring in the presence of a radical polymerization initiator to give the aimed resin. Allyl cinnamate is preferred as the first monomers, and chlorostyrene is preferred as the second monomers. Preferably, the third polyfunctional radically polymerizable monomer, e.g. ethylene glycol dimethacrylate, is used to further improve the processability.
USE: An optical lens, prism, dustproof glass, wind shield glass, etc.
