Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled copolymer, capable of cutting the ultraviolet light, and having improved light and weather resistance and reliability for a long term, by copolymerizing a radically polymerizable ultraviolet light absorber with a radically polymerizable monomer.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture of (A) one or more kinds of radically polymerizable ultraviolet light absorbers expressed by formulaI(R1 is H or methyl; X1 is H, 1W8C alkyl, etc.; Y is H, etc.), formula II (R2 is H, benzyl, etc.; X2 is H, hydroxyl, etc.; Z is H, carboxy, etc.), formula III (R3 is H or 1W8C alkyl) and formula IV (R4 is H, allyl, etc.), e.g. methyl 4-vinylsalicylate, with (B) one or more radically polymerizable monomers, e.g. styrene, and if necessary a polymerization initiator is cast in a gap between two glass molds having a given curvature and a gasket, and polymerized thermally to give the aimed copolymer.
