Abstract

PURPOSE: To carry out the fractional distillation and liquefaction of carbon dioxide gas, economically, by contacting a waste gas containing carbon dioxide gas directly with a cryogenic organic medium, and heating the resultant slurry liquid containing solid carbon dioxide as a disperse phase under a pressure above the triple point.
CONSTITUTION: Cooled and dehydrated waste combustion gas is cooled to about -78°C with the heat exchanger 1, and introduced into the adsorption tower maintained to a pressure below the triple point. The combustion waste gas is brought into contact directly with ethanol cooled at about -110°C and sprayed in the tower 2, and a part of the gas is adsorbed to ethanol and the major part of the gas is converted to dry ice and dispersed to form a slurry. During the adsorption process, the tower 2 is cooled with a freon cooler 3 cooled to about -150°C with LNG. The dry ice slurry having a concentration of about 50% is pressed to a pressure above the triple point, and introduced into the regeneration tower 5. The slurry is heated with industrial water 6 in the tower 5, and carbon dioxide gas is expelled from the top of the tower 5 in a compressed state at a pressure above the triple point. The gas is cooled in the liquefying tower 7, and stored in an operation tank as liquefied carbon dioxide.
