Abstract

PURPOSE:To permit the use of a blank material having high abrasion resistance for making the sleeve alone by fixing the sleeve and arbor consisting of dissimilar metals by expansion fitting then heating and pressurizing these in a high vacuum atmosphere thereby causing diffusion-bonding of the fayed surfaces. CONSTITUTION:An arbor 1 consisting of low alloy steel and a sleeve 2 consisting of high alloy steel 2 are fixed by expansion fitting. This fixed roll is contained in a vacuum tank, where about 10<-3>-10<-5>torr vacuum is created and the arbor 1 and the sleeve 2 are heated to 1,000-1,050 deg.C. Next, the arbor 1 is pressurized under 1.5-2kg/cm<2> pressures from both end sides in the axial direction of the arbor 1. The pressurizing time is adjusted in accordance with the diameter of the arbor 1, say, to 5-10hr in the case of using the arbor 1 of 300-500mm. diameters.
