Abstract

PURPOSE: To form a joint part of superior toughness and mechanical properties in a low temp. region having no notches and the like by pressing materials to be pressure-welded from their axial direction and the direction orthogonal to the axial direction in at least the final stage in gas pressure welding.
CONSTITUTION: Materials to be pressure-welded such as steel bars, steel pipes or the like are first butted and while these are pressed from their axial direction, they are heated with mixed gases contg. acetylene, propane, oxygen, etc., and are thereby subjected to gas pressure welding. In at least the final stage of this pressure welding process, the materials to be pressure-welded are pressurized from the axial direction and besides, they are also pressed from the direction orthogonal to the axial direction, whereby they are subjected to gas pressure welding. Then, the shape of the joint part is regulated by the pressing force from the radial direction thereof, and the shape is made fixed, whereby the production of notches and the like is obviated. The structure of the joint part is fined, and the toughness and the mechanical properties in a low temp. region are improved on a par to those of base metals.
