Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent leaking out of molten metal contained in molds through clearances, by continuously introducing molten slag to clearances between the outer circumferential surface of a molten metal supplying nozzle and the inner surface of mold and filling up the clearances always with the slag. CONSTITUTION:When continuous casting of molten steel is performed, by supplying a molten slag from a molten slag supplying pipe 13, clearances between caterpillars 5 and 5 installed as a pair at the right and left sides an another pair at the upper and lower sides to constitute the mold, or between floors of these caterpillars are blocked with a slag layer 17, and thus, intrusion or leaking of molten steel 1 into or from the clearances is prevented. Moreover, the molten slag between the outer circumferential surface of a nozzle 4 and the floor acts as an effective lubricant against the sliding motion of both.
