Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase the cooling effect of a cooling drum and to produce amorphous or microcrystalline metal of high quality continuously by projecting heat transfer reinforcing fins from the rear side of the circumferential side wall of a cylinder into the cooling fluid flow passages provided on the rear surface of the metallic cylinder. CONSTITUTION:Plural cooling fluid flow passages 14 are disposed mutually parallel in a circumferential direction on the rear surface of a heat transfer plate 13 of the body of a rotary drum which receives the injection of molten metal. Heat transfer reinforcing fins 15 are projected and provided on the side surface of the plate 13 within the passages 14. The passages 14 are connected to communicating parts 11, 12 respectively at both ends thereof, and cooling fluid flows in through the part 11 and out to the part 12. When the molten metal is injected to the outside surface of the plate 13, the heat transferred to the plate 13 from the molten metal is transmitted immediately through the fins 15 to the cooling fluid. The fins 15 play the role of providing reinforcement against the centrifugal forces and external forces acting upon the plate 13.
