Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the total thermal efficiency of the engine by a method wherein the steam is obtained by the heat of exhaust gas and the steam is conducted into a cylinder during the suction stroke thereof. CONSTITUTION:Water 2 in a water tank 1 is injected into a vaporizing chamber 8 formed at the outside of an exhaust pipe 11 through a pipe 3, a pump 4, a surge tank 5, a valve 6 and a nozzle 7. Obtained steam is injected into the cylinder at the vicinity of the substantially lower dead point of a piston 19 during the suction stroke of the engine through a pressure regulating valve 13, a pressure regulating chamber 14 and a valve 15. The heat of the exhaust gas is returned to the mixture in the cylinder in such a manner and is utilized effectively.
