Abstract

1483408 Operating four-stroke engines YAMAHA HATSUDOKI KK 14 Oct 1974 [24 May 1974 26 June 1974 12 Aug 1974] 44382/74 Heading F1B The flow of fuel from an injector nozzle 20 in the induction pipe 12b of the or each cylinder of a four-stroke I.C. engine is directed towards the bottom of the inner surface 19 of the induction pipe, the flow being stopped during the period between 30 degrees and 150 degrees after top dead centre in the induction stroke, i.e. mainly during the time that the inlet valve 21 is closed, the wall temperature of the induction pipe, in the region 17 near the inlet valve, being maintained between 90‹C and 135‹C. Since the fuel is injected mainly when the inlet valve 21 is closed, it has time to vaporize in the relatively warm region 17 so that a relatively nomogeneous mixture is subsequently introduced into the cylinder. To assist in maintaining the temperature of the region 17, the region is not provided with cooling water passages and may even be insulated or heat-jacketed. The air/fuel ratio may be higher than 15. A throttle valve 32 is provided in each induction pipe 12b.
