Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a pre-preg made of sheet like material continuously with at least two layers of crossed continuous carbon fiber by following method in which a pulrality of inclined grooves for expanding are arranged in series, and then the fibers whose flowing speeds are suitably changed, are piled up on a shedding machine rotating and moving at constant speed, and are impregnated with resin.
CONSTITUTION: The end parts of expanding grooves 12, 13 which are inclined and widened toward the end, are arranged in two series. The continuous carbon fibers separated and expanded uniformly are caused to flow down successively and gathered on a shedding machine rotating and moving at constant speed. At this time, the fiber-flowing speed in the groove 12 is caused to be nearly equal to the peripheral speed of the shedding machine, and the fiber flowing speed in the groove 13 is caused to be larger than said peripheral speed, thereby obtaining the piled material composed of crossed fibers. This sheet like material is vacuum-dehydrated by a nozzle 14 and is dried by a hot air-blower 15.
