Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the delay chracteristics of an optical fiber with a small connection loss, by fixing a plane mirror onto the plane of the short axis of a hollow rotary elliptic material and providing an optical absorber in a part of the hollow rotary elliptic material. CONSTITUTION:Beams 12 of light which are propagated in an optical fiber 1 in a mode lower than that of beams 10 of light which are incident to an optical fiber 2 at a maximum half angle thetac of incidence are reflected by a plane mirror 14 placed on the plane of the short axis of a hollow rotary elliptic material 3 and are reflected by a reflective film 6 of the hollow rotary elliptic material 3 and pass a focus 4. Beams of light passing the focus 4 are reflected by the reflective film 6 of the hollow rotary elliptic material 3 furthermore and reach the other focus 5 and are connected to the optical fiber 2. Consequently, beams of light propagated in the optical fiber 1 in the lower mode can be connected to the optical fiber 2 also. Since an optical absorber 15 is provided in this hollow rotary elliptic material 3, the reflection light of the light 10 due to the work variance of the inside reflective mirror of the hollow rotary elliptic material 3 and the positional deviation of the plane mirror 14 is prevented from being incident to the optical fiber 1.
