Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase the heat conductivity of a cooling pipe which deposits Al of high purity on the surface of the pipe when immersed in molten Al and to improve the deposition rate of high purity Al by constituting said cooling pipe of a metallic inside pipe and a graphite outside pipe and interposing a melt of a metal lower in m.p. than that of Al in the spacing between both pipes.
CONSTITUTION: A cooling pipe consisting of a graphite outside pipe 2 put on the outer side of a cylindrical inside pipe 1 made of heat resistant steel or stainless steel is immersed in molten Al. The inside of the pipe 1 is cooled with water to cool the pipe 2. Al crystal of extremely high purity deposits on the surface of the pipe 2, and this is stripped therefrom, whereby the high purity Al is refined and recovered from the molten Al.
