Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent a machining tank from interfering with electrodes, when the electrode is replaced through an arm moving vertically, longitudinally and horizontally, by moving a table to a position for the machining tank not to interfere with the electrode. CONSTITUTION:A magazine 42 is mounted laterally of a column 12 in an electric discharge machine in a rotary indexable state, and plural electrodes 38a-d are mounted to the magazine 42. An arm 46 is moved forward to grip an electrode 38a, at the lowermost position in the magazine 42, lowered, moved backward then horizontally rotated. The arm 46 is moved further forward to rise and mount the electrode to an automatic clamping device 36. Removal of the electrode is performed in a reverse order. At replacement of the electrode, a position of XY tables 16, 18 is detected by dogs 52, 56 and limit switches 54, 58, and a machining tank 30 is moved to a position not to interfere with a range of movement of the electrode.
