Abstract

PURPOSE: To facilitate the electric discharge machining of even a high resistance workpiece by disposing a contact piece contacting electrically the workpiece in a position where impedance between said contact piece and an electrode becomes relatively small to shift the contact piece while maintaining constant an interval between the contact piece and electrode.
CONSTITUTION: A high resistance workpiece 11 such as conductive ceramics is mounted on a table 10 to contact the contact electrodes 27, 28 of contact pieces 21, 22 by the shift of wire guides 15, 16 in a position where impedance between the workpiece and a wire electrode 12 becomes relatively small. By electrode supports 25, 26 mounted on support arms 23, 24 movable in the direction a, b is shifted the workpiece to maintain constant a distance between the workpiece and the wire electrode 12 and discharge voltage is applied from feed units 13, 14 and contact pieces 21, 22 to send the workpiece 11 to the wire electrode 12 side for electric discharge machining.
