Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate the occurrence of lines and to ensure an excellent external appearance, by applying the pressure on both surfaces of a plate material with use of a pair of dies and bending the plate material within a plane. CONSTITUTION:A tapering plate material 2 is put on a die cushion 17 and attached between tools 26 and 27 having curved surfaces where the center part of the material 2 touches. Then the material 2 is pressed with upper and lower dies. Thus coining surfaces 30 and 30 are formed at the center part of the material 2, and at the same time a side 4 at the small thickness side extends to be bent in the plate width direction along the touching surfaces of the tools 26 and 27. After this, the material 2 is shifted to another pressing device to be set so that tools 34 and 35 are positioned toward the tip side centering on the center part of the material 2. Then the material 2 is bent. This bending process is successively repeated at plural areas in the lengthwise direction of the material 2 with exchange of the pressing devices. In such a way, the material 2 can be smoothly bent within a plane.
