Abstract

PURPOSE:To make the capacity decrease of a nickel-zinc battery to be hardly caused due to the charge-and-discharge cycle by installing a resistance and a switch between the positive and the negative terminals, and forming a closed circuit during a given time by closing the said switch. CONSTITUTION:When a nickel-zinc battery is left in discharging condition, a switch 7 is closed so as to form a closed circuit consisting of a positive terminal 2, a negative terminal and a resistance 6. As the result, Zn remaining in the negative plate 3 is converted into ZnO by reacting with water contained in the electrolyte, and the charging capacity of the battery is restored. In addition, decrease of the capacity of the battery can be extremely minimized by causing the above mentioned reaction by closing the switch 7 every time between the finishment of discharging and the initiation of the next charging.
