Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium which has no spacing loss and has a high wear resistance, by forming a lubricating inorganic compound thin film having a specific thickness on the surface of a disc where a magnetic film is formed and forming a lubricant film on the surface of this thin film. CONSTITUTION:A lubricating inorganic compound thin film having 30-200Angstrom thickness is formed on the surface of a disc where a magnetic film is formed, and a lubricant film is formed on the surface of this thin film. For example, an Armite layer is formed on the surface of an Al substrate, and an alpha-Fe2O3 layer with 0.2mum thickness is formed on the surface of the substrate by sputtering in atmospheric Ar-O2, and this layer is subjected to the heat treatment in a reducing atmosphere and is converted to Fe3O4 and is subjected to the heat treatment again in air to form a ferrite oxide magnetic film consisting of gamma-Fe2O3. Next, after an SiO2 film is formed by sputtering in atmospheric Ar-O2, a lubricant is applied by spin coating and is wiped from the surface by a rotary pad, to which a sheet of paper including no fats and ois is attached, to form a lubricant film.
