Abstract

PURPOSE:To measure the coefficient of friction and sharpness of a grindstone by pressing a soft and elastic roller against the working surface of a grindstone, and then measuring the turning speed of the roller when the grindstone rotates. CONSTITUTION:A roller 1 made of a material which has adequate elasticity and softness like fluororesin and less cohesion friction is fitted to a lever 3 thorugh a shaft 2 and a bearing, and then pressed against the working surface 5 of a grindstone during rotation with the know load of a weight 4. Consequently, its frictional force turns the roller 1 and a small-sized generator 7 which has a resistance R generates electricity through the shaft 2 and a flexible shaft 6. The electric output of the generator 7 is supplied to a voltmeter V to measure an output voltage E, and also supplied to an ammeter A to measure a current I, thereby finding the product EXI of them. A value obtained by dividing the electric output by the efficiency of the generator 7 is equal to the frictional force, and a coefficient of friction is therefore found. Then, the sharpness of the grindstone is measured from the coefficient of friction.
