Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable any one or all of sliding noise, sliding friction torque, volume of dust generation and color of disc surface to be determined accurately by pressing a test piece, made of the same material as a magnetic head, against surface of a rotating magnetic disc so that the test piece slides on the disc surface.
CONSTITUTION: Rotation of a motor 3, through a conduction belt, drives a spindle 2 and rotates a magnetic disc 1 at a high speed. A test head is attached onto tip of a head arm 7 installed onto a carriage 4, and this is pressed against surface of a magnetic disc 1 by a pressure-applying spring 5. Variation of color of the magnetic disc surface is inspected visually, and dust generated by sliding between the magnetic disc 1 and the test head is measured by a dust counter 9 and the sliding noise is measured by a noise pressure meter 6. Further, sliding friction is measured by a resistance line gage attached to a part of the head arm 7. It is possible, in this way, to obtain result of determination accurately in a short period of time.
