Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain zinc external parts of a golden color easily without using gold by wet plating three layers of Cu, Ni, Cr beforehand on a zinc die cast alloy watch in the stage of forming a TiN film by ion plating on said watch. CONSTITUTION:In order to maintain the basic corrosion resistance of a zinc alloy base material, Cu and Ni are plated as undercoating and Cr is plated as top coating. A TiN alloy is plated on the zinc alloy base material applied with the three layers of the plating. At this time, a zinc alloy has a low m.p. and therefore if it is heated in a vacuum, its vapor pressure hampers the PVD. In order to prevent this, it is necessary to cover to zinc alloy completely with the undercoating plating so that no parts of the alloy expose. This entails coating Cu of good leveling characteristic thereon to prevent the formation of pinholes and to electrodeposit of Ni of relatively good corrosion resistance thereon. The Cr plating is required for the purpose of improving corrosion resistance and TiN platability.
