Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a chloroprene rubber powder having improved stickiness, by dispersing a metasilicate in an anionic chloroprene polymer latex and mixing the dispersion with a specified coagulant.
CONSTITUTION: A fine chloroprene polymer power is obtained by dispersing 2W 15pts.wt., per 100pts.wt. chloroprene polymer in latex, metasilicate represented by M2SiO3, wherein M is an alkali metal, in an anionic chloroprene polymer latex and mixing the dispersion with a coagulant selected from alkaline earth metals, aluminum salts and acids. The size of the chloroprene polymer particles formed can be controlled by adding, to the coagulation system, a nonionic surfactant or an anionic surfactant selected from alkyl sulfonates and salts of a sulfonic acid directly bonded to an aromatic ring. If such a surfactant is present in the coagulation system, the size of precipitated polymer particles becomes small.
