Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the time required for characteristic pickup, by obtaining number of blocks, areas in a block, number of loops, areas in a loop based on a direction code through tracking of pattern profile. CONSTITUTION:When a pattern is stored in a pattern memory 1, a control section 4 gives an address toward X and Y directions to the pattern memory 1 via address counters 2 and 3, scans the reaster of the pattern memory 1, detects the black bit appeared at first on the scanning line and enters the tracing operation of the profile. The control section 4 accesses a table 5 with progressing direction code and going-out code relating to each black bit and obtains an area in a profile according to the read operating procedure. First, the address adjacent to the first black bit is accumulated in a register 6 and the address at the next stage of pattern is integrated in a register 7. The content of the register 7 is substracted from the content of the register 6, and the area in the resultant block is stored in a register 8.
