Abstract

PURPOSE:To segment as a character pattern of one character even for a character entered in such state as it juts widthwise from a character frame on forms. CONSTITUTION:A character pattern of one line portion obtained from a photoelectric coversion part 7 through a signal line l6 is stored in a line buffer 8. A format control data provided in advance by an operator is supplied through a signal line l1 to an operating circuit 1, in which (x) co-ordinates of (n) pieces of standard segment points KP are calculated and stored on the basis of said data. To a border tracking deciding circuit 4, an (x) co-ordinate value of the standard segment point KP is provided through a signal line l2 from the operating circuit 1. A character pattern is obtained through a signal line l8 from the line buffer 8 by designating an address through a signal line l7. The border tracking deciding circuit 4 reads out in order a character pattern from the line buffer 8 until the position where a character pattern which has been read out from the line buffer 8 becomes black, or until (y) co-ordinates become a maximum value in the lengthwise direction of one character.
