Abstract
PURPOSE:To achieve focus detection accurately all the time by sampling and holding each integral value of each photodetecting element under prescribed conditions. CONSTITUTION:Each integral value of each photodetecting element and a signal having a prescribed level from a parallel type D/A converter 20 are supplied to comparators 19-1-19-n through sample holding circuits 18A and 18B. Then, while neither an inverted signal detecting means 24 nor a timer means 26 is in operation, the integral value of each photoelectric output is sampled and held as picture-element information. Then, a prescribed analog signal is supplied to respective comparators 19 and when the output of an optional comparator is inverted, the output of a counter 21 is written in a memory which corresponds to said comparator; and the picture-element information is converted into a digital signal and the converted signal is processed at a part 5 on the basis of a prescribed estimation function, thus detecting the focus state of an object image.
