Abstract
PURPOSE:To coat any position of the converter wall with slag by a method in which varying flow rates of gas is blown into the tuyere of the converter bottom while rocking the converter in such a way as to blow off slag remaining in the converter. CONSTITUTION:While rocking the converter 1, gas is blown into the converter by varying its blowing rate from the tuyere of the bottom according to positions where slag remaining in the converter is to be coated, whereby the slag is blown off toward any position of the converter wall 3 for coating. In this case, if the blowing rate of gas is increased, the slag is adhered to the upper part near a throttled part 4 of the converter, but if the blowing rate of gas is decreased, the slag is coated on the lower wall near a throttled part 5 of the converter. Thus, in comparison with the conventional slag coating in the bottom-blowing converter, the sticking of the slag to the upper part of the converter is reduced and therefore, bad influence on the operation of the converter can be completely eliminated and the sticking of slag to trunnion side (which was impossible for oxygen converter) can also be made possible.
